This book comprises ten short stories, namely: The Snail Race, Master Brawa, The Sun, Bobby and Friends, The Good Lion, The Peace Jungle, Three Neighbors, The Winning Team, Prince Panji, and The Fisher. By providing the students this story book, the have fun reading material, they will have an alternative to read English besides the content English material. By reading story, students will enjoy reading activities without concerning the difficulty of understanding the content. Once the students enjoy reading, they will not be bored to learn English. It is much better rather than giving the students content-based reading.
In the story book, there are several conversations. These conversations indirectly teach the students how touse English. Therefore, the story book does not only provide the students the form of English language but also the function of English. Students will have experience either from listening or reading of how an English conversation take place.
The insertion of some activities and lesson plan in the story book was intended to provide opportunities ofusing not only one English skill. All of the English skills were accommodated in this story book, such as: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
The use of language was identified by the conversation within the story. All of the story contained conversation among the characters. It was intended to give an example for the students of real conversation inEnglish. How the real English speaker use English can be known by the students through the reading and listening the story.
The teacher will be easy to use this book since there is lesson plan for every story. Each of the story is completed with explanation of the language focus, thinking skill that can be developed, age of the students, level of English mastery, teaching time allocation, preparation of the activities, mini lesson plan, the story itself, and the activities that can be done with the story. Besides that, the teacher could read some explanations of what book it is,who this book is for, why this book was designed, and how to use this book. These could be found the preface of the story book.
